Mixed Movements as a Governance Challenge: Strengthening Migration Pathways and Asylum Systems in Parallel

Building on R-Space’s engagement during the 2025 UN General Assembly, this event revisits the growing focus on “mixed movements” in global migration discourse. Rather than framing these dynamics as a matter of system misuse, the discussion will explore them as a governance challenge, stemming from fragmented policy design, limited access to regular migration pathways, and underinvestment in asylum systems.
The event will convene representatives from governments, refugee-led and migrant-led organizations, civil society, and academia to examine how parallel investments in migration pathways and asylum systems, alongside stronger coordination, can lead to more effective, humane, and rights-based responses.

Agenda:

  • 5:30 PM – Doors open for networking (drinks and finger food will be served)

  • 6:30 – 8:00 PM – Panel discussion.
